Choosing how to find customers

Outbound without an SDR team: which services run it end to end, and what the founder still owns

Four kinds of service will run outbound for you without hiring SDRs: an outsourced SDR agency, a pay-per-meeting appointment-setting firm, an AI SDR vendor with managed onboarding, and a managed prospecting service that runs outreach from your own team's profiles. Whichever you pick, the founder still owns the offer, the definition of a good meeting, and the sales conversations.

Our view

  • Founders without sales development reps (SDRs) usually want two things: someone to run the whole outbound job, and not to spend months hiring and ramping a rep. The Bridge Group's 2025 research is widely cited at about 3.0 months to ramp a new SDR, after you've found one. The services below skip that, but each one hands you a different kind of work back.
  • 1. Outsourced SDR agency. The agency's reps build lists, call, email or message on LinkedIn, and book meetings. Published prices we checked on October 5, 2026: Leadium lists $3,500 a month for a cold-calling program and $4,000–$5,000 for multi-channel outbound; EBQ lists $5,000 a month for a half-time rep and $10,000 for full-time on an annual commitment; SalesRoads lists $11,950 per four weeks for one dedicated SDR. Fits when you need people on the phone quickly. Ask whose profiles and inboxes send, and who owns the conversations when you stop.
  • 2. Pay-per-meeting appointment setting. You pay for each meeting booked. Leadium, which sells retainers, says on its pricing article that loosely qualified appointments run $150–$300 each, ICP-matched meetings $300–$500, and verified executive meetings $800–$1,500. Those are an agency's figures, not a neutral benchmark. The risk: you pay for meetings, not for buyers who want to move forward, so write down what counts as a qualified meeting before you start.
  • 3. AI SDR vendor with managed onboarding. Software finds prospects and writes to them; the vendor helps set it up. AiSDR's Scale plan ($2,500 a month, quarterly contract) includes bi-weekly performance review calls; SDR Pilot lists $97–$497 a month with a 14-day free trial. Someone on your side still checks what goes out under your name. See AI SDR alternatives for the trade-offs.
  • 4. Managed prospecting from your own team. The service does the targeting, research and outreach, but the messages go out from the founder's or sellers' own profiles, so the relationships stay with your company. That's what we do: software finds buyer signals, a person reviews new messages, everything lands in your CRM, and success is opportunities your team accepts. We're a poor fit if your buyers aren't on LinkedIn or you need phone-led volume.
  • In traditional industries (manufacturing, logistics, construction, local services), check the channel before the vendor. This is our view, not a benchmark: look at your last 10 to 20 customers and count how many of the buyers you dealt with have active LinkedIn profiles, and how many first replied by phone or email. If most came by phone, a calling-led agency will probably suit you better than LinkedIn-led outreach, ours included.
  • What the founder still owns, whichever you choose:
    1. The offer and who it's for. No service can fix an unclear offer.
    2. A written definition of a qualified meeting and an accepted opportunity.
    3. The sales calls themselves, and fast follow-up.
    4. A weekly look at what went out under your company's name. For email in the US, the FTC says both the company being promoted and the company that sends a message can be held responsible under CAN-SPAM.

What the evidence says

  • Agency prices (vendor pages) — Leadium, "Outsourced SDR Cost in 2026" (link): $3,500/month cold-call program, $4,000–$5,000 multi-channel, and per-appointment ranges of $150–$300, $300–$500 and $800–$1,500. EBQ pricing (link): $5,000/month half-time, $10,000 full-time, "price reflects annual commitment". SalesRoads pricing (link): $11,950 per 4-week engagement for one SDR. All checked October 5, 2026. These firms sell the services they price.
  • AI SDR plans (vendor pages) — AiSDR pricing (link): Scale $2,500/month with "bi-weekly performance review calls"; Explore and Scale have quarterly contracts. SDR Pilot pricing (link): $97 / $297 / $497 a month, 14-day free trial. Checked October 5, 2026.
  • Ramp time — The Bridge Group's 2025 SDR study of 351 B2B companies (citation page) is cited by Leadriver (link) for an average ramp of 3.0 months. Checked October 5, 2026.
  • Responsibility for outsourced email — FTC, "CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business" (link), checked October 5, 2026: the law makes no exception for business-to-business email; "you can't contract away your legal responsibility"; both the company being promoted and the company that sends the message may be held legally responsible.
  • LinkedIn's rules — LinkedIn User Agreement, effective November 3, 2025 (link), section 8.2 prohibits "bots or other unauthorized automated methods" to add contacts or send messages. Any service that sends on LinkedIn for you carries that risk, including ours. Checked October 5, 2026.

Common questions

What types of services manage end-to-end outbound for founders without SDRs?

Four main types: outsourced SDR agencies, pay-per-meeting appointment-setting firms, AI SDR vendors with managed onboarding, and managed prospecting services that run outreach from your own team's profiles. They differ in who sends the messages, whose name is on them, and whether you pay for activity, meetings or opportunities.

How do you build an outbound motion that runs without a full-time SDR team?

Write down who you sell to and what counts as a qualified meeting, pick one service type that matches how your buyers like to be reached, and keep the founder on the sales calls and on a weekly review of what went out. Judge it after a set period on opportunities you'd actually work, not on meetings booked.

What does outsourced outbound cost?

Published examples we checked on October 5, 2026: $3,500 a month for a cold-calling program (Leadium), $5,000 to $10,000 a month for a half- or full-time rep on an annual commitment (EBQ), and $11,950 per four weeks for one dedicated SDR (SalesRoads). AI SDR software starts lower: $97 a month (SDR Pilot) or $250 a month (AiSDR).

Is pay-per-meeting lead generation worth it?

It can be if you define a qualified meeting in writing and can reject ones that don't fit. The risk is paying for meetings with people who were never going to buy. Leadium's own article puts per-appointment prices from $150 for loosely qualified meetings to $1,500 for verified executive meetings.

Which outbound service works best in traditional industries?

Check how your buyers actually reply first. If your recent customers mostly came through phone calls, a calling-led agency is likely the better fit. If their buyers are active on LinkedIn, LinkedIn-led outreach from your own team can work. Ask any vendor for examples from your industry.
